BUMC Youth Participate in local CROP Walk
Written by Joan Walker
Tuesday, 02 March 2010
“We Walk Because They Walk” The BUMC Youth invite you to join them at the Nashville CROP Hunger Walk. This year, some of the funds from this event, which has become an annual outreach program for our Youth, will be used for disaster relief efforts in Haiti. In addition, funds are used both in the US and Internationally to fight hunger and poverty. The phrase “We Walk Because They Walk” speaks to the hundreds of wells that have been built in rural villages in Africa.  As a result, young girls in Africa  no longer have to walk 3-5 miles to fetch water several times per day, carrying 5 gallon cans on top of their heads to provide their family with water.  The Nashville CROP Hunger Walk will be Sunday, March 28, in Centennial Park.  Join the Youth at the Band Shell on the north side of the park at 1:45pm for registration and instructions.  The walk will begin at 2:30pm with both a 1 mile route and a 5K route.

If you are a youth and plan to walk with us, talk with Jeff Shearer so we are sure to have transportation covered.

BUMC Youth Reach Across the Neighborhood
Written by Joan Walker
Tuesday, 02 March 2010
BUMC Youth Reach Across the Neighborhood During the month of March, the youth will be collecting personal hygiene items for the youth group at 61st Avenue United Methodist Church.  Many of these youth do not have running water or electricity in their homes, much less the basic personal items a teenager needs for a healthy life.  The youth of BUMC would like to give from their abundance and invite the congregation to do the same.  There is a basket located outside the office of Joan Walker marked "61st Avenue Youth."  Thank you for your generosity. A list of suggested items is as follows:
  • Deodorant
  • Acne products
  • shampoo/conditioner
  • feminine hygiene products
  • body spray
  • soap
  • lotion
  • toothpaste/toothbrushes
  • disposable razors
  • any personal grooming item that you think a boy or girl in 7th-12th grade might use or need!

Children's Sunday School and Choirs Resume!
Written by Robert Bland
Tuesday, 18 August 2009

Hello parents!  We hope your children have had a great summer and a great start to the school year!
We at Bellevue United Methodist Church would like to let you know that on Sunday, August 23rd, we will begin our fall Sunday school classes and everyone is welcome to join us!  Again this year we will be using the Live B.I.G. series from Cokesbury:

Cokesbury's children’s Sunday school curriculum, Live B.I.G., is being applauded for engaging children in Sunday school. Live B.I.G. is designed to help children ages 3-13 learn about the love of God through Jesus so they can live their “Belief in God.”

On Sunday, August 23rd, we will begin at 8:45 a.m. in our Christian Life Center (the large room we met in for VBS) with a breakfast where we will be praying for the children and their upcoming school year.  If you wish to attend this breakfast with your children please email Gina Bland ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) your child's name, grade and school attending so we can add them to our prayer list.    If you are unable to attend but would still like for us to add your children to the list that is fine too.

Also, starting Wednesday, September 2nd at 6:00p.m. our children's choirs will start!  Jean Koelz and her volunteers will be working with our younger children in the Music Makers (4yrs - 2nd grade.)  They will continue to work on learning a wide variety of music for worship and developing singing/music skills with our younger children. The Young Musicians (3rd-6th grades) will be led again by David and Debi Tyree.  During the 2009 choir year we have had the opportunity of the loan of several more Orff instruments from the United Methodist Musician organization Debi Tyree belongs to - the Young Musicians will be taking advantage of having these instruments quite a bit. We will be singing, playing instruments and ringing bells!

If you should have any questions regarding Sunday school, worship or choir please let Joan Walker ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) know.

We hope you and your family have a great school year and hope to see you soon!

It's Not Easy Being Green
Written by Debi Tyree
Tuesday, 18 August 2009
The youth first challenged the church to go green by their decision to stop using disposable plates, silverware, and cups as a part of their Sunday night dinners. Each week the youth rinse and fill up the dishwasher (several times!) with their dishes at the end of their meals. The church council  decided to accept that challenge. Click the Read more... link below to find out other actions that BUMC has taken over the last year to be green!

Camp E.D.G.E. 2009 was Great!
Written by Robert Bland
Thursday, 23 July 2009

What a wonderful week it was for the children to be able to trek through Camp E.D.G.E.!  Each night the children were given a new trek where they discovered "God is with me. I will stay close to God.", "God guides me. I will follow.", "God teaches me.  I will learn.",  "God loves me. I will love God and others.", and "God sends me. I will go.".  In addition to the wonderful learning experience of the treks the children also had a great time in crafts and sciences, games, dancing and meeting Blaze and Sparx our camp leaders!

Our mission project this year was to make a mountain of cans for the Bellevue Food Bank and a mountain they made!  The children brought in 574 food items!  Way to go kids!
