Back to Church Series
Written by Joan Walker
Thursday, 05 November 2009

The Adult Education Coucil is offering a series of classes for the newcomer or the old timer that wants a refresher course.  The series kicks off with:

Why Go To Church?  This is a two session study, first looking at the reasons many people now choose not to go to church.  The second session looks at the various reasons for remaining in church.  It offers a chance for participants to say what they think and is a great chance to reaffirm why we go to church.  Sunday, November 1 and 8 at 8:45am in the library.  Led by Margaret Cornell

Which Bible Should I Buy?  Is a two session study that helps participants understand the various types of Bibles and gives helpful suggestions so individuals can pick the right Bible for her or his own use.  Sunday, November 15 and 22 at 8:45am in the library.  Led by Sue Ergle

Appreciating Spiritual Gifts  is a two session study that both challenges members to examine their own gifts as well as appreciate the gifts of others.  This study reminds us that it takes all gifts to build the body of Christ we call church.  Sunday, January 17 and 24, 8:45am in the library.  Led by Ross Whetstone

How Did Jesus Save Us?  Many Christians are confused about the meaning of the cross and how it saves us.  This one session study examines various atonement theories and encourages participants to appreciate the mystery, the "somehow", of our atonement through Jesus Christ.  Excellent way to start the Lenten season.  Sunday February 14, 8:45am.  Led by Rev. Bob Lewis

Children's Sunday School and Choirs Resume!
Written by Robert Bland
Tuesday, 18 August 2009

Hello parents!  We hope your children have had a great summer and a great start to the school year!
We at Bellevue United Methodist Church would like to let you know that on Sunday, August 23rd, we will begin our fall Sunday school classes and everyone is welcome to join us!  Again this year we will be using the Live B.I.G. series from Cokesbury:

Cokesbury's children’s Sunday school curriculum, Live B.I.G., is being applauded for engaging children in Sunday school. Live B.I.G. is designed to help children ages 3-13 learn about the love of God through Jesus so they can live their “Belief in God.”

On Sunday, August 23rd, we will begin at 8:45 a.m. in our Christian Life Center (the large room we met in for VBS) with a breakfast where we will be praying for the children and their upcoming school year.  If you wish to attend this breakfast with your children please email Gina Bland ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) your child's name, grade and school attending so we can add them to our prayer list.    If you are unable to attend but would still like for us to add your children to the list that is fine too.

Also, starting Wednesday, September 2nd at 6:00p.m. our children's choirs will start!  Jean Koelz and her volunteers will be working with our younger children in the Music Makers (4yrs - 2nd grade.)  They will continue to work on learning a wide variety of music for worship and developing singing/music skills with our younger children. The Young Musicians (3rd-6th grades) will be led again by David and Debi Tyree.  During the 2009 choir year we have had the opportunity of the loan of several more Orff instruments from the United Methodist Musician organization Debi Tyree belongs to - the Young Musicians will be taking advantage of having these instruments quite a bit. We will be singing, playing instruments and ringing bells!

If you should have any questions regarding Sunday school, worship or choir please let Joan Walker ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) know.

We hope you and your family have a great school year and hope to see you soon!

It's Not Easy Being Green
Written by Debi Tyree
Tuesday, 18 August 2009
The youth first challenged the church to go green by their decision to stop using disposable plates, silverware, and cups as a part of their Sunday night dinners. Each week the youth rinse and fill up the dishwasher (several times!) with their dishes at the end of their meals. The church council  decided to accept that challenge. Click the Read more... link below to find out other actions that BUMC has taken over the last year to be green!

Camp E.D.G.E. 2009 was Great!
Written by Robert Bland
Thursday, 23 July 2009

What a wonderful week it was for the children to be able to trek through Camp E.D.G.E.!  Each night the children were given a new trek where they discovered "God is with me. I will stay close to God.", "God guides me. I will follow.", "God teaches me.  I will learn.",  "God loves me. I will love God and others.", and "God sends me. I will go.".  In addition to the wonderful learning experience of the treks the children also had a great time in crafts and sciences, games, dancing and meeting Blaze and Sparx our camp leaders!

Our mission project this year was to make a mountain of cans for the Bellevue Food Bank and a mountain they made!  The children brought in 574 food items!  Way to go kids!
